Although I experiment with many different types of media, I have always considered myself a photographer. Having the camera in my hands, and my eye looking through the lens allows me to see any part of everyday life to be captured as art. This past summer, I traveled throughout Italy and Germany which was the perfect opportunity to expand my photography portfolio. This particular Cathedral is in the main square of Munich, Germany. The old gothic architecture really captured my eye because the city most of the architecture throughout the city was very simple. I think that making the photograph black and white really shows how dynamic the building was and makes all of the different little details around the clock tower really stand out.
This photograph was also taken while on my trip this past summer. This was taken on a small boat that was bringing me and my family to the small lakeside town of Limone in Italy. The town is set on the very edge of a tall mountain along the shore of one of Italy's largest lakes. The major point of this photograph that really stands out to me is how the sun is just above the mountains. The strong light draws you into the photograph and leads the eye over to the Italian flag on top of the boat. The simple color palette of this photograph gives it a warm feel which accurately represents the feeling that I developed in Italy.
This photograph is unlike the other two above but this photo has to be one of my favorites that I have ever taken. This black and white portrait is of a childhood friend and I believe that this photo truly displays her fun and crazy personality. The strong contrast in this photograph is a style that is usually throughout all of my photography and I think that black and white photography will always be the better choice because of its classic look. Even though the subject and her emotions may not be "classic" beauty, I still believe that this is a very strong photograph that evokes a lot of fun emotion and a has a less serious vibe that the rest of my work.
